Sentencing delayed for Calif. campaign treasurer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sentencing has been postponed for a California campaign treasurer who admitted to defrauding at least $7 million from a high-profile roster of Democratic politicians.
Kinde Durkee pleaded guilty in March to five counts of mail fraud in U.S. District Court in Sacramento. She was scheduled to be sentenced next week, but the hearing has been postponed until October 10.
The crimes could have carried a maximum penalty of 100 years, but her plea deal calls for a sentence of 11 to 14 years. Durkee’s attorney has said he will argue for a shorter term.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said the delayed sentencing, posted Thursday, was expected.
Prosecutors said Durkee ran a complex shell game, shifting millions between bank accounts of politicians, community groups and her business.
